HHICC Club Member Benefits
-
Access to the Resource Center
which is open Monday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm,
is a key membership benefit. The
Center is staffed by volunteers who are available to help visitors and callers
troubleshoot problems. Based on their individual experience, skills and
expertise, if they can’t help directly, they can point out other volunteers from
our Phone List who have agreed to list their phone number for help with specific
issues and topics. The volunteers can also point out the wide variety of other
resources available to members and prospective new members. Members can also
utilize computer terminals, slide scanners, the media center, and other
equipment and existing software. Members are asked to please limit use to one
hour sessions, when others are waiting. Because of the wide variety of volunteer
talents and skills, if a member requires help solving a specific problem, it's
recommended they call ahead to make sure someone with that specific expertise
might be available to help with your specific problem.

The WWW.HHICC.ORG
Web Site presents the Weekly News, Member Articles, Top Picks
Free Software, Phone List, Staff and Volunteer information, and access to a
wealth of other related information.
-
The HHICC Weekly News is emailed to members, bringing the news and access to the
web site directly to members on a regular basis.
-
The Island Computing Newsletter is a monthly publication which highlights timely
topics of interest, and it is emailed to members. The monthly Newsletter is also
posted on the web site, and past issues are archived and also available.
-
Workshops are offered once a month, September through June. They are led by
members experienced in a specific topic and generally last about one hour.
Typically they cover the “basics” of a popular software program, like MS Word or
Photoshop Elements, and provide tips and hints on how to make those programs
more useful. As space is limited, reservations are required. Workshops aren’t
intended to replace courses or classes offered locally.
-
Special Interest Groups (SIGs) meet monthly in small groups and hold open discussions
with questions and problem solving on topics like AOL, Image Editing, Macintosh,
Music, Windows XP, etc. These special interests are constantly changing based
upon interest and attendance. Current Special Interest Groups meeting times are
listed on the calendar, which can be found on the web site.
Membership provides all of the benefits listed above, as well as an opportunity
to meet other members and volunteers.
The Hilton Head Island Computer Club respects the professionals in the community
who derive their livelihood from providing computer services and repairs. Based
on this, we don’t make house calls.
